Biography

Martin Cauchon advises his clients primarily in international business law. He facilitates his business relationships with his clients by providing strategic advice on development, acquisitions, and strategic alliances. He draws on his years of experience as a member of senior management of companies, during which he designed and negotiated numerous transactions and alliances for Canadian and Chinese companies.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Cauchon had a distinguished political career at the federal level. First elected as a Member of Parliament in October 1993 in the Quebec riding of Outremont, he subsequently held various positions in the federal government, including Secretary of State (Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, January 1996 - January 2002), Minister of National Revenue (August 1999 - January 2002), Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and Minister responsible for Quebec (January 2002 - December 2003). In 2013, Mr. Cauchon entered the Liberal Party of Canada leadership race as an official candidate.

Mr. Cauchon's unparalleled experience in government has given him a deep understanding of a wide range of issues, including the challenges facing business in a knowledge-based economy and global markets, human rights, and partnerships at the provincial, national, and international levels.

In March 2015, Mr. Cauchon, through Groupe Capitales Médias of which he was Executive Chairman until August 2019, acquired six daily newspapers, Le Soleil, Le Quotidien, Le Droit, La Tribune, La voix de l'Est and Le Nouvelliste.

He currently sits on the board of directors of several companies. He is also the Vice President of the Canada China Business Council and President of the Quebec Chapter.
